Pumpkin Potpouri

Its FALL!!! My most favoritest time of the year. I love the smell of the air, the crunch of the leaves, decorating the house and going to the cider mill for warm cider & doughnuts. Plus its my birthday and my sister always send me the bestest presents! She knows me so well :-) Any-who, the over achiever in me had aspired to write a post every day of fall where each day I would show you the coolest, most fantabulous autumn decorations, recipes, and super easy DIY Halloween costumes. In my head ya'll it was great. I spent most of the summer surfing the internet and reading library books for inspiration and ideas. Then reality set in and my little man started school and so did I. Since this semesters fare requires quite a bit of my attention, plus The Mr., The Doodle and Tuttie all like to live in a clean house, eat, wear clean clothes, bla, bla, bla, I have decided to keep my sanity, screw perfection and show you the best of what I found.

Today's idea  is simple, cheap, and will make your house look and smell fantastically like the autumn season.
You will need :
1 pie pumpkin,
Your choice of spices.  Cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, apple pie spice, pumpkin pie spice, whatever you have on hand will work. I used 1 tsp pumpkin pie spice and 5 cloves.

The first step is to cut the top off the pumpkin and scrape out the innards. Then use an apple corer to cut round vents around the pumpkin. Think polka dots, various shapes, sizes or patterns. If you want to get creative you could use small Halloween shaped cookie cutters. Whatever you would like, just make sure there are at least 5 vents. The last step is to rub the lid with the spices, place a tea light in and cover. The smell will last about 6 hours and the strength will depend on how much you use. Remember a little will go a long way and always be careful when using fire. Dont set it by your curtains, nail polish remover etc you know the drill. Usually I have pictures to post of the before and after, but The Doodle stole my camera and ran the batteries out taking pictures of Tuttie. So use your imagination and when I can post the pics of the finished project I will.

xoxo

The Mrs.
